Cobiax has got involved: The major project being undertaken by ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE, the “New Campus” complex of buildings has a strong focus on sustainability and will receive LEED certification in gold.
The new building is divided into two phases of construction, the first of these is expected to be finished in the summer of 2021. Phase B will only start once all of the employees have moved into their new offices. According to the current status of the planning, building works will continue until 2023. Situated on the sizeable 26,000 square-metre plot of land between the S-Bahn local railway and Dieselstraße, the new building will provide around 85,000 square metres of space for offices, data centres and studios. The whole of the four-storey building will be equipped with modern facilities. There are plans for flexible and adaptable meeting rooms, attractive areas for events and also modern lounges and recreational areas.
A bridge will run along the northern section, which will have branches to the southern section that link every part of the building by the most direct route. There are also plans for a large, internal “piazza” with a cafeteria and a landscaped platform, which is designed to function as a central meeting point for the employees.
At this point, it’s worth mentioning one special feature in terms of the technology being used in the construction: parts of the building will function as a “Faraday cage”, which is being created by welding steel mats in the ceilings of the building. This type of construction protects the building from all kinds of signals and so guarantees an extremely reduced level of interference when running broadcasts.
In just the first section of the building, an area of 12,500 square meters of Cobiax-SL void formers will be used. This makes 900 m3 of concrete obsolete, which will reduce the amount of CO2 that is released into the environment by 189 tonnes. In addition, considerably fewer concrete mixers will need to make the trip to the building site. A reduction in construction traffic always makes sense for the company carrying out the work and not least for the city itself. The icing on the cake: lorries don’t need any fuel either, if they’re not moving.
