From the first glimpse, from the outside, you can already see: Something very special has been created. Facade cuts form the bridge between the natural exterior and the wide spaces on the inside; involuntarily, associations are formed with the hanging gardens of the Semiramis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

These green microlungs are the brainchild of the architect, Libeskind, and the landscape architect, Sebastian Fürst, who were in search of a congenial transition from the arch to the surrounding city landscape.

In 2014, the arch, referred to as the Kö-Bogen, won the Mipim Award in the category “Best City Renewal Project”; in the same year, the building was awarded platinum in the LEED Certifications.

A complex feat of strength

A masterpiece of coordination

The figures alone indicate how complex the planning and implementation of the building were: Just under 40,000 m2 of building area, 19,000 m2 of retail and gastronomy on the ground floor and 20,000 m2 of office space on the upper floors, all had to be completed precisely and on schedule. About 45 planning companies and 100 sub-contractors were involved; 36 authorities supervised the project, and there were about 60,000 plans and protocols to provide instructions for the work and document the implementation thereof. The three-storey underground parking garage has 650 parking spaces, and in the six-storey, high-rise building, renowned national and international companies have secured their place in the heart of the Düsseldorf city centre.

The impressive results show: The courage to create an unusual, iconic magnet has paid off: The project developers were able to sell the property just one year after construction was completed.
