The Dreiländergalerie in Weil am Rhein is a new shopping and service centre currently being built in a central inner-city location. As well as a tight schedule, a series of construction-related planning changes posed the greatest challenge. One of the buildings was to have an extra floor added, to create more space for retail. Increasing the total weight of the building as a result of this was not an option, as otherwise the earthquake resilience verification would have been compromised, and extensive reinforcement work would have been needed.
