A two-digit million amount has been invested in the training centre. The front with double glazing, low-temperature use and full air conditioning as well as the use of rainwater protects the environment. The concrete slabs were also realized as Cobiax ceilings. In this way, the environment was spared considerable pollution from cement and transport traffic even before the utilization phase.
Architect Siegfried Schmelze described the free-floating part of the building as “the consistent continuation of the lines of the multi-purpose building”. Since there was a lack of suitable building ground, the new building rested on 165 concrete piles. Furthermore, an extension to an existing industrial building was technically complex. Since concrete is the biggest source of CO2 during construction, the aim was to use as little of it as possible. Cobiax void formers were therefore embedded in the floor slabs. This has saved a total of 1800 tons of concrete. “With the CO2 saved, you could drive a million kilometers by car,” said the architect.
We wish the Arburg company much success in the new building.
