The Vida Hotel and Serviced Apartments, is a four-star hotel in Marassi Al Bahrain at Diyar Al Muharaq with approx. 50,000 m2 of Built-up space. The impressive two buildings, which are being built with Cobiax void forming technology, is more than 10 storeys above ground. The two separate buildings serve on the one hand as serviced apartments with 141 units, on the other hand as the four-star hotel with 157 rooms.
In terms of planning, as the project construction is on fast track with detailed design process, the developers were looking for further flexibility to make changes in layout and coring of slabs, weight reduction and the need for high ceilings (without drop beams/panels). In addition, there was a need to speed up the building process. This project follows the successful completion of Cobiax slabs for Vida Residence (66 storey) in Dubai for EMAAR Properties. In a nutshell: these are just the right conditions for the manifold advantages of Cobiax Slab System.
The thickness of the slabs could be reduced considerably, thanks to the use of the Cobiax technology. Whereas the initial construction planning was based on 30 to 38 cm post tensioned slabs, with Cobiax this could be reduced to 28 to 35 cm. The slimmer slab construction also fulfilled the owner’s request for higher ceilings on the individual floors.
The switch to the Cobiax technology also added value due to a reduced time for construction and due to reduced construction height of the slabs. With Cobiax void formers, it is possible to construct lightweight and green structures that would not have been possible with other typical slab construction methods.
